Are tablets the 'sweet spot' of BYOD policies?
ZDNet's Charlie Osborne shares predictions from Gartner, which reveal that tablets will become the "sweet spot" for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies in the future and through 2017. The firm expects 90 percent of organizations will come to support "some aspect" of BYOD. Osborne poses the question, "Will [tablets] one day become dominant in BYOD for business users who own a device for both work and play?" What do you think?....more 2015JANNWS
Software Defined Networking (SDN) Showdown
CRN's Kevin McLaughlin discusses how VMware got its SDN product to market first, in comparison to Cisco, and shared some examples of how VMware is trying to capitalize on that head start. McLaughlin reports, "VMware and Cisco were close partners for a long time, but in a relatively short time, they've devolved into the Hatfields and McCoys of the data center. And according to partners on both sides, this skirmish is quickly morphing into a full-blown philosophical dispute." ....more 2015JANNWS

NetApp joins the EVO:RAIL party and includes a FAS
NetApp announced that they are now part of the EVO:RAIL partner program. Although I have been part of the EVO:RAIL team it is not something I would have seen coming. But I can see why they decided to join and find their announcement interesting. I wasn't planning on writing about it as Mike Laverick already did, but as I received 8 emails over night on this topic I figured I would share what is going to be included in this package.
NetApp has created a rapid deployment mechanism for theNetApp FAS unit that will be integrated with the NetApp EVO:RAIL appliance. The FAS unit will connect into the same top of rack switch that the EVO:RAIL appliance will connect into. We have created a link and launch capability that NetApp can leverage from within the EVO:RAIL configuration engine to rapidly configure/integrate the FAS unit with the EVO:RAIL appliance.More on this post from Duncan Epping: http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2014/12/04/netapp-joins-evorail-party-includes-fas/ 2015JANSDC
